Acute aphakic pupil block glaucoma: an alternative surgical approach.
نویسنده
چکیده
In a series of 7 cases of acute aphakic pupil block glaucoma a surgical approach designed to break adhesions between the iris and the anterior hyaloid face was uniformly successful. Reasons for the success of the method are discussed and comparisons made with other surgical approaches.

Diagnosis of pupillary block glaucoma after removal of congenital cataracts with intraoperative ultrasound biomicroscopy: a case report
BACKGROUND Aphakic glaucoma is a common complication after congenital cataract extraction, especially in those who have surgery during infancy. This case report describes a case of bilateral pupillary block glaucoma diagnosed with intraoperative ultrasound biomicroscopy (UBM) after removal of congenital cataract. CASE PRESENTATION We present a case report of a 9-month-old infant with bilatera...
متن کاملBasal iridectomy at 6 o'clock in the aphakic eye treated with silicone oil: prevention of keratopathy and secondary glaucoma.
In the aphakic eye, with intact iris diaphragm, silicone oil has frequently caused a pupillary block. In this situation aqueous humour accumulates behind the iris and forces silicone oil through the pupil into the anterior chamber. An iridectomy at the 6 o'clock position can effectively prevent this pupillary block. The iridectomy allows free passage of aqueous to the anterior chamber which rem...
متن کاملThe syndrome of closed-angle glaucoma.
Closed-angle glaucoma is the result of two mechanisms acting either separately or in combination: 1. Pupil block creates a greater pressure in the posterior than in the anterior chamber, pushing the iris on to the cornea. 2. Increased trabecular meshwork outflow in the presence of pupil block creates a lower pressure in the anterior chamber than in the posterior, pulling the iris on to the corn...
متن کاملThe Profile and Management of Glaucoma in Adult Aphakic Patients Following Complicated Cataract Surgery
Objectives To determine the profile and clinical course of glaucoma in adult aphakic patients following complicated cataract surgery. Materials and Methods Retrospective chart review of 22 adult aphakic patients (29 eyes) with glaucoma. Results Mean age was 57.69±14.18 years when aphakia occurred. Mean age at time of presentation to our glaucoma clinic was 62.57±12.47 years. Mean follow-up ...
متن کاملHow large must an iridotomy be?
Four cases of acute angle closure glaucoma in eyes with a small but patent Nd-YAG laser iridotomy are presented, and similar cases in the literature are reviewed. Theoretically a 15 microns diameter iridotomy should be large enough to prevent angle closure glaucoma due to pupil block. Mechanisms by which larger iridotomies fail to prevent angle closure glaucoma, and the role of provocation test...
